What does Aurora 'AAC' mean?
Augmentative and Alternative Communication — or AAC — is a term for any tool or method that helps someone communicate when speech isn’t enough. It can be as simple as pointing to a picture or as advanced as using a device that speaks aloud.
Augmentative means adding to someone’s existing speech.
Alternative means providing another way to communicate when speech is difficult or not possible.
AAC isn’t about replacing someone’s voice. It’s about supporting their voice, giving them more ways to express themselves, share ideas, make choices, and be understood.
Everyone communicates differently — AAC simply makes sure every person has a way to be heard.
What business structure does Aurora AAC use?
At present, Aurora AAC is not a registered organisation — it is a small, individual project designed to assist with communication, provided freely and supported by optional donations.
As the project develops, we will register as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company once the app is live. It’s a straightforward, mission-driven structure that legally safeguards the project and enables us to manage donations more formally, without becoming a commercial enterprise.
Who is behind Aurora AAC?
Aurora AAC is built by Aurora Dynamics, created in our own free time. The project began because my partner works with children who rely on AAC every day, and we have seen how painful it is when a child can communicate at school but becomes silent at home due to cost, devices, or complicated systems.
Aurora AAC is built with heart, not profit — shaped by real families and real needs.
Is the app really free to use?
Yes — completely free. No subscriptions, no upgrades, no hidden fees. Aurora AAC exists because communication is a human right, not a product. Money should never decide who gets to speak.
What if I want to provide feedback or share ideas?
We would love that. Aurora AAC grows because real people share their experiences, ideas, and needs. You’re never bothering us — you’re helping us build something that matters. Every message is read with care.
Does the app work for both children and adults?
Absolutely. Aurora AAC is built for every age, every story, every life. Whether someone is 4 or 84, their voice matters just as much.
Do I need an account or login to use the app?
No. You don’t need an account, email, or password. You open the app, and your voice is right there — instantly. Communication shouldn’t hide behind a sign‑up screen.
When will the Aurora AAC apps be released?
We are getting close. Aurora AAC is in active development, and we’re shaping it with care rather than rushing it out the door. Because this is a small, personal project, we don’t have a fixed release date — but the goal is to share the first public (beta) version as soon as it feels stable, simple, and genuinely helpful.
If you would like to know when it’s ready, you can sign up for our newsletter below. We will send a gentle update as soon as the app is released.
If the app is free, who pays for it?
We do. Aurora AAC is funded entirely by Aurora Dynamics — no ads, no investors, no data collection, no premium version. It’s built in our free time because communication should never depend on money.
If you love the app, you can choose to buy us a coffee, but it’s completely optional. Aurora AAC will always stay free.
